This cheat sheet provides an overview of whether selected countries in different regions of the world are imposing or debating obligations for (video on-demand) streaming services to promote local content.
It highlights that:
- only a few countries beyond European Union member states are imposing (or debating) local content obligations;
- where obligations exist, they mainly relate to the distribution of local content (quotas or prominent display);
- production-related obligations are less popular and are often imposed as film fund levies
The surveyed countries are: the 27 EU member states, the UK, 8 countries in the Americas region (Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru and the United States), and Australia.
