The EU Data Act is a cross-sectoral regulation that establishes a legal framework for sharing data generated through the use of connected products and related services. It sets out data sharing provisions for business-to-business (B2B), business-to-consumer (B2C), and business-to-government (B2G) relations.
This regulation includes provisions aimed at enabling fast and fluid switching between data processing services (e.g. cloud providers) and abolishes switching charges from 12 January 2027. It also defines requirements of interoperability standards for data processing services, as well as of common European data spaces.
Most of its provisions will be directly applicable across EU member states on 12 September 2025.
This new Cullen International Cheat Sheet provides an overview of the main provisions.
