Pos Malaysia, the incumbent postal operator, continued to improve its financial performance in 2023 despite intensive competition in the parcels market.
Pos, the designated universal service provider, retains a monopoly on letters up to 500 g but faces fierce competition in particular for parcels traffic, with some 114 licensed competitors.
The Malaysian regulator, MCMC, requires Pos to meet quality and reliability standards for domestic letters, as well as imposing a price control.
Cullen International’s special report reviews the Malaysian postal market, providing market and financial data on Pos, as well as the operator’s sustainability targets and action.
The report also analyses the regulatory framework, including on:
- universal service;
- licensing regime;
- specific rights for the universal service provider;
- price regulation;
- funding mechanism;
- end-user protection rules and complaints; and
- competition.
