By 7 June2021, member states will need to implement the new EU Directive on Copyright in the Digital Single Market.
One of the main new features of the directive is that it grants to EU press publishers a new right to authorise the reproduction and making available to the public (i.e. copying and online dissemination) of their press publications (i.e. newspaper, magazine or news website) by information society services, except for uses of “individual words or very short extracts”.
Cullen International’s new 'Cheat Sheet' helps industry players and policy makers understand the impact of this new provision on current business practices by explaining in an immediately readable format:
- the scope and the duration of the new right;
- the consequences for providers of online services;
- what EU press publishers need to do to exercise their new right.
