Cullen International's timeline outlines the milestones in the implementation of the Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act) until August 2031. It includes:
- core application dates;
- obligations for the European Commission;
- obligations for EU member states; and
- obligations for providers of high-risk AI systems and general-purpose AI (GPAI) models.
The AI Act entered into force on 1 August 2024 and has been applying as of 2 August 2026 with certain exceptions, as outlined in the timeline below.
The timeline reflects the amendments to the AI Act introduced by the AI Omnibus, which entered into force on 27 July 2026. These amendments include the delayed application of the rules for high-risk AI systems.
