Amid rising security concerns, European countries are increasingly requiring the identification and registration of all mobile users, including prepaid customers.
Cullen International’s benchmark on prepaid SIM card registration shows that national legislation in 19 of the 28 European countries studied require mobile service providers to register the personal details of their prepaid customers.
Proposals to introduce this obligation are pending in Latvia and Malta.
In addition, the research shows how this information must be registered (in person at a point of sale or at a distance with electronic registration) and whether providers must verify electronic registrations.
