The transposition deadline for the Renewable Energy Directive III expired on 21 May 2025. Even now, only two EU member states have fully transposed the directive, Germany doing so in August.
The deadline for the transposition of the Energy Efficiency Directive is approaching (10 October 2025), with no member states yet having fully transposed the directive. A number of member states have partially transposed the directive, with five having done so for the provisions relating to data centres.
Our new benchmark contains summary information on the transposition status of six key EU environmental directives in all member states, namely the:
- Renewable Energy Directive III
- Energy Efficiency Directive
- Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition Directive
- Energy Performance of Buildings Directive
- Right to Repair Directive; and
- Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive
The remaining four directives have more distant deadlines in 2026 and 2027.
