Cullen International’s Americas Media Benchmarks have been updated. With this update, two LATAM countries stand out with regulatory action to protect audiences. The new edition of our benchmark on TV advertising restrictions to protect public health or minors notes developments in Argentina and Brazil.
Argentina now extends the same restrictions it applies on TV to adverts for over-the-counter medications, dietary supplements and cosmetic products to digital and other non-traditional media. The corresponding provision was issued by Anmat, Argentina’s food, drug, and medical devices watchdog.
Meanwhile, Brazilian regulators are cracking down on online advertising of forbidden e-cigarette products. Brazil’s National Consumer Protection Secretariat now requires digital platforms such as Instagram, TikTok and YouTube to take down advertisements of forbidden e-cigarette products.
Cullen International’s Americas Media Benchmarks monitor relevant regulatory developments in Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, and the US.
