As of 25 July 2019, the new ICT modernisation law is applicable in Colombia. The new law creates a converged regulator responsible for the telecoms and media sectors, aiming also to provide more legal certainty and improved conditions for new ICT investment.
In particular, the new law modifies the previous telecoms legal framework to: extend the duration of new spectrum licences from 10 to 20 years; introduce a general authorisation regime for TV operators; and merge the two previously separate funds for connectivity and media into a single integrated ICT fund.
