The rise of the digital economy poses challenges for traditional approaches to antitrust and merger control enforcement.
In considering the appropriate competition policy for the digital economy, a number of questions need to be addressed on the role and boundaries of competition policy, including on:
- access and use of big data,
- the market power and behaviour of online platforms;
- and contractual restrictions on online sales.
The keen interest of the European Commission and of national competition authorities in these issues is reflected in a growing number of cases, studies and sector enquiries that are covered by our new Tracker.
