On 30 April 2024 the European Commission announced the launch of formal proceedings against Facebook and Instagram for possible breach of the Digital Services Act, in particular rules on risk management (in relation to the integrity of elections and other harms), the notice-and-action mechanism, content moderation transparency and redress mechanisms for users, and data access for researchers.

Digital Services Act: European Commission could temporarily suspend TikTok’s recently launched Lite reward programme in the EU

On 22 April 2024, the European Commission announced its intention to temporarily suspend the reward programme of TikTok Lite in the EU in the context of a second formal proceedings against the very large online platform. TikTok would have breached the Digital Services Act by failing to submit a risk assessment report before launching in France and Spain the Lite app with this new feature.
