Countries in the Americas continue to award more radio spectrum for mobile services. Cullen International’s latest research details several developments in the allocation, award, and management of spectrum in the Americas over the past six months.
There are two ongoing mobile spectrum awards in the mid-bands:
- Argentina announced the award of further local licences in the 2.6 GHz band.
- The USA is auctioning spectrum in the 2.5 GHz band for 5G wireless services.
Colombia adopted its five-year spectrum management plan for 2022–2026, launching a comprehensive consultation on 5G services and spectrum. Argentina considered several spectrum bands for 5G services but has yet to decide on the timing for future awards. Canada is currently consulting on the use of the 26, 28 and 38 GHz bands to support 5G services.
