Parcel lockers are at the sharp end of wider developments in the European postal and delivery market, representing a significant part of the response to changing user needs, while also providing operational benefits. 

Postal traffic is increasingly shifting to the delivery of packages, accentuated by the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, which drove an unprecedented increase in demand for e-commerce. 

Some 71% of European consumers now make online purchases of goods, with this number likely to continue growing strongly. 

Customers demand the ability to:

• purchase anytime, anywhere, and from any device; and
• enjoy rapid, convenient, and secure delivery.

While traditional home delivery remains the most popular method of delivery, it has clear limitations, leading to frustration and increased costs:

• customers are often away during the day when parcels arrive; and
• postal operators and couriers struggle to optimise deliveries effectively, given the large number of parcels to be delivered.
